RUSSIAN-GEORGIAN CONFLICT IN PICTURES: ANALYSIS OF ACCUSATORY DISCOURSE OF WESTERN CARICATURES
Abstract
The article considers political caricatures. It is analyzed how caricatures could function as an attack against the whole country. Caricatures on the Russian-Georgian conflict of August 2008 published in Western European and American prints are analyzed for that matter. Various elements of a graphical style in the context of the rhetorical audience impact, aimed at raising allegations against Russia as well as forming of the negative country image on the terri- tory of North Atlantic Alliance, are analyzed. It has been found that political caricatures carry not only an entertaining function but also a function of forming public opinion in whole and in particular – the development of the enemy image through making a multinational accusation.
